Frankfurt on the Main River

Frankfurt is characterized by contrasts: Frankfurt is a modern metropolis as well as an old fashioned, laid back and cozy town. The impressive, modern skyline is as much Frankfurt as are the fabulous historical buildings, the parks and the unique cultural atmosphere.

  • Römerberg: Historical downtown features magnificent half-timbered houses and the town hall (Römer).
  • Imperial Cathedral: Beginning in 1356 AD this was the official election site for the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. Ten emperors were crowned here.
  • Museum Waterfront: Unique boulevard that is lined with cultural institutions and museums featuring arts and crafts, film, architecture, paintings, Jewish history and statues from the Antiquity.
  • Paul’s Church: The cradle of German democracy and the seat of the first German parliament in 1848.
  • Goethe House: Birth place and early residence of the German poet J.W. Goethe.
  • Palm Garden: Green oasis in the middle of town featuring plants from almost every climatic zone on earth.
  • Zoo: Founded in 1858, it is considered one of the best zoos in Europe thanks to its exhibits of exotic and nocturnal animals.
